For Christmas gift extras near Llanwrtyd Wells, Wye Knot in Builth Wells brings together cards, treats and finishing touches that are easy to leave until the last minute. The shop’s mix of homeware, cards, treats and unusual finds makes it easier to get ahead before December fills up.
The finishing touches are often small but worth choosing early: a card with room for a proper message, a compact decoration for a smaller space, coffee for someone who enjoys a good cup, or a small extra to tuck in with a wrapped gift.
Christmas finishing touches to choose before December
Once the main presents are decided, smaller extras are easier to overlook, but they still benefit from a little thought. Buying them early leaves time to write cards properly, check useful details and choose something suited to the person, rather than grabbing something in a rush.
Choose a card with room for personal words
The right Christmas card can carry more than a signature. When someone will appreciate a personal note, a blank card leaves space for it. The Dragon Sleigh Night Nadolig Llawen Welsh Christmas Card by Huxters is blank inside, leaving the sender free to choose their own words.
That blank format suits the way messages change from person to person. A brief seasonal greeting may be right for one person, while a longer note may suit another. Choosing cards early also leaves time to write at an unhurried pace and post any that need to travel.
A compact Christmas tree for a smaller space
Not every Christmas touch needs the scale of a full tree or a large display. A compact decorative piece can work well in a smaller home, a work area or a room the main decorations do not usually reach. The Prelit Potted Christmas Tree 60cm combines snow-dusted foliage with red berries, pinecones and warm white LEDs in a compact potted tree.
Bought early, it can be kept ready for a keen decorator with limited space, or for a smaller home where a full-sized tree would be too much.
Match the treat to the recipient
Food and drink gifts work best when they are chosen with care. For a coffee drinker, Suffolk Blend Coffee from Harris and James is made with carefully selected arabica beans, slow roasted in 15kg batches, and received two stars at the 2021 Great Taste Awards.
It could be set aside for a coffee lover, chosen as a small thank-you, or added to a Christmas present for someone who enjoys good coffee. As with any food or drink gift, shoppers should check the current product information before buying if ingredients, allergens, grind or preparation method matter.
If someone enjoys a joke in their stocking, Fishymingenol Candy Mints Funny Novelty Stocking Fillers by The Diabolical Gift People are decidedly light-hearted. They are a small, humorous add-on, best chosen for someone whose sense of humour you know.
For someone who likes something different
Gifts bought at Christmas do not have to be seasonal. Sometimes a small ornament or collectable suits the person better than another festive item. The Dragon Resin Egg, for example, is a fantasy-themed ornament for a dragon enthusiast and can remain out after Christmas has passed.
It works well as a small extra to unwrap and keep alongside a card or a practical main present, adding a little character without overdoing the gift.
